Fund-raising

Lions raise funds in many different ways in order that local good causes and charities can be supported. Here are a few ways in which the Witney Lions Club (CIO) raises money.

Witney Carnival

You will find us playing a key role in helping organise the Witney Carnival from which we receive a percentage of the overall profit.

Planning of the Carnival normally starts in the September of the preceding year where Lions are responsible, for organising the main arena events, the live music, the pig roast and the beer tent.

Thousands of hours are put in by the four organisations, pre and post event day. Apart from ourselves, Rotary Club of Witney, 2120 Air Squadron Witney and Witney Round table all give up their time to ensure that this annual event is always a huge success.

None of this of course would be possible without the generous support our local businesses give us each year and with their support we ensure that this remains the BIGGEST FREE event for the local community and surrounding towns & villages.

Christmas Sleigh

Each December you will see us out and about, either outside Witney’s main supermarkets during the day or pulling Santa, Rudolph and his sleigh around the community.

Gazebo Hire

We have two 3m x 3m and two 3m x 6m Gazebos for hire. Popular with various groups and organisations holding events, we deliver erect and take down the Gazebo(s) for you.

PLEASE NOTE, we no longer hire out our two 6m x 12m marquees, sorry!

Horse Racing Evenings

We help other clubs & groups raise funds for their needs by supporting them in running a Horse Racing Event. Not real horses or tape-recorded races, but audience participation and the luck of the dice. As such it can be run in a medium size hall.

Collection Boxes

You might see one of our collection boxes in a Pub or Shop, why not drop a couple of coins in it and help us to help others.

Easter Egg Raffles

At various Pubs and other locations, large Easter Eggs are raffled in the lead up to Easter. A chocolate delight for the winner.
